At the first online meeting of the newly established Council Company Network, there were presentations from one well established council company the South West Audit Partnership (SWAP) and one younger company Medway Development Company (MDC).
Chris Gunn, CEO of SWAP gave a history of the company which offered auditing services to councils, and focussed on the practicalities and importance of getting council company finances right and what non-accountant directors needed to be on the lookout for.
Lewis Small, Managing Director of MDC, spoke about the early year of operation for a council housing company in north Kent, which purchased under utilised car parks and other surplus land from their council shareholder and developed new homes for rent or sale.
